Biographical Information:
Jonathan M. Busch is an associate with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer P.A., concentrating his practice in the areas of education law and governmental affairs. He has been selected for inclusion on the New Jersey Super Lawyers®-Rising Stars list, 2010 and 2009 Editions.
Mr. Busch regularly works with the firm's school board clients on issues pertaining to education law. He also advises many of the firm's other public clients, at various levels of government, with respect to ethics and open government laws. In particular, Mr. Busch has extensive expertise with the Senator Byron M. Baer Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA) and the Open Public Records Act (OPRA), and co-authored an article entitled “OPRA Truly an ‘Exemptional’ Law” featured in New Jersey Lawyer. Additionally, Mr. Busch provides advice to clients on a range of matters involving political campaign law. He is very familiar with the state and local "pay to play" laws, regularly advises business entities with respect to their political contribution rights and disclosure obligations, and has co-authored “Pay-to-Play in New Jersey: An update on state and local requirements” featured in New Jersey Lawyer and "Diminishing the Risk of Political Contributions by Businesses with Public Contracts" published in Cutting Edge, a publication of the New Jersey Builders Association. In addition, Mr. Busch has counseled candidates and campaigns for both state-wide and local political office and a number of political action committees on the state's election laws.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Busch worked as an associate at Saiber Schlesinger Satz & Goldstein, LLC in Newark and served as an intern at the United States Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey in Newark. Mr. Busch earned a masters of arts degree in politics and education from Teachers College, Columbia University. During law school, he worked as a member of the Special Education Clinic and Constitutional Litigation Clinic and while in college at the University of Maryland, served as Student Body President.
He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Middlesex County Bar Association and New Jersey Association of School Attorneys.
