Biographical Information:

Mr. Murdoch focuses his practice on business transactions and regulatory compliance issues affecting healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities including, but not limited to Stark, anti-kickback, anti-trust, Medicare, Medicaid, licensing and fraud and abuse issues.

In addition, Mr. Murdoch focuses on the many ancillary businesses involved in the health care industry such as medical billing companies, management service organizations, and other companies.  Interestingly, as many healthcare clients diversified into other industries, Mr. Murdoch has also represented the purchasers and sellers of restaurants and liquor stores.  He also has advised many new franchisees in connection with their new ventures.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Murdoch served as special assistant to the Honorable Karen L. Suter, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.  Mr. Murdoch also served as a state investigator for Insurance Fraud from 1993 to 1998 and then served as principal investigator in the Department of Banking and Insurance Division of Anti-Fraud Compliance from 1998 to 1999.

Mr. Murdoch is certified by the Police Training Commission as an instructor for police academies in New Jersey.  In addition to instructing in various police academies, Mr. Murdoch has presented seminars on Insurance Fraud, Healthcare Fraud, HIPAA Privacy Regulations, HIPAA Security Regulations and regulatory compliance to various healthcare professionals, business and community groups.  Further, Mr. Murdoch has assisted many healthcare providers and licensed facilities comply with the HIPAA Privacy Regulations.  Such efforts include providing on-site review of the entity’s practice, on-site training to staff members and assist in preparing policies and procedures.

 

 

 

Mr. Murdoch has authored “The HIPAA Security Regulations: What Physician Practices Should Be Doing Now!" in the American Health Lawyers Associations's Physician Organizations, Winter 2003, Volume 6, Issue 2.  Mr. Murdoch has also co-authored “HIPAA Privacy Rule Impacts Lawyers Across the Board” in the New Jersey Law Journal, December 15, 2003. 

Mr. Murdoch is resident at the firm’s Eatontown, NJ office.

Mr. Murdoch is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Health and Hospital Law Section where he is a Director and the Chair for the Section.  He is also an active member of the Hudson-Bergen Inn of Transactional Counsel and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Business Entities Committee.

Mr. Murdoch is an Eagle Scout and currently serves as a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America for the Law, Communications and Aviation merit badges.  He is also a licensed private pilot currently working on his instrument and commercial licenses.
