We are deeply saddened to announce that Morris Brown, a shareholder with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, passed away on August 10, 2011 in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. A renowned personal injury lawyer for 55 years, Mr. Brown joined the Wilentz firm in 1956 and became a partner in 1968.

Daniel R. Lapinski Appointed Co-Lead Counsel In New Jersey Centralized DePuy Hip Implant Litigation

Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer is pleased to announce that Daniel R. Lapinski has been named Co-Lead Counsel in the In re DePuy ASR Hip Implants Litigation (Case No. 293) by Judge Brian R. Martinotti, Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County Vicinage. Presently, approximately seventy-five lawsuits have been filed in New Jersey against Johnson & Johnson, the parent company of DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. This litigation, which is expected to include hundreds of patients who had been fitted with a defective DePuy ASR hip implant, was centralized to Bergen County in April 2011 by Order of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. As Co-Lead Counsel, Mr. Lapinski shall be a liaison between the Court, defense counsel and all Plaintiffs counsel, and is responsible for designating and selecting Plaintiffs’ counsel to serve on any sub-committee that may be formed.

Congratulations to Frederic K. Becker on his 50th anniversary here at Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer. Mr. Becker, Chairman of the Board of Wilentz, started his career as a summer clerk in 1957 and in 1960, after graduating cum laude from Harvard Law School and completing a year as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Copenhagen he become a member of the firm. Since that time, he has served for many years on the firm’s Management Committee and is one of the Wilentz’s senior trial attorneys engaged in complex corporate and commercial litigation in the State and Federal Courts.

Municipal Court Judge Peter Locascio Vindicated of DWI Charge

On May 19, 2010, after a three-day trial in the Superior Court in Middlesex County, Peter A. Locascio, a sitting Municipal Court Judge in Monmouth County, was found not guilty of drunk driving, refusal to submit to a breath test and reckless driving. He was convicted of improper passing, receiving a $52.00 fine.
He was represented by James E. Trabilsy of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer and Peter O’Mara of O’Mara Law Office.
