Mass Tort Litigation

Mass tort litigation is a complex and demanding practice area. A mass tort is a civil action involving many plaintiffs against one or a few defendants. Mass torts may involve litigation related to product liability (such a pharmaceutical and medical device litigation), man-made disasters (such as airplane crashes or explosions) or toxic exposure (such as asbestos exposure and groundwater contamination).

In mass tort litigation, large numbers of similar cases filed against common defendants are typically consolidated before a single judge for coordination. Plaintiffs’ attorneys will generally work collectively until such a time as the judge orders all cases be sent back to the court of original jurisdiction.
