Wilentz General Counsel and Retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Frank M. Ciuffani has been named a 2020 Professional Lawyer of the Year by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law (NJCPL). Judge Ciuffani was recognized by the Middlesex County Bar Association for his “exemplary conduct, competence, diligence and demeanor,” for setting “a positive example” for other New Jersey lawyers, and, for “bolstering the public perception of the bar.”
The NJCPL is a cooperative undertaking of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the state and federal judiciary and New Jersey’s three law schools. The Commission promotes professionalism within the bench and bar through educational initiatives and related programs and confers the Professionalism Awards annually to selected lawyers from the bar associations across the State.
In his role as the General Counsel at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, Judge Ciuffani serves as the firm’s key advisor concerning the law governing lawyers, governance issues, risk management, and policy implementation. Judge Ciuffani also leads the Wilentz’s Alternative Dispute Resolution practice, where he focuses on mediating and arbitrating complex commercial, business, employment, probate and family disputes. Before rejoining Wilentz in 2017, Judge Ciuffani served 14 years on the bench, including as immediate former Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, General Equity Division, as Probate Judge of Middlesex County, and as New Jersey Superior Court Judge, Civil and Family Divisions of Middlesex County.
