Robert J. Mega, former Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division, General Equity and Probate, is a highly sought after mediator, providing mediation, arbitration, and special discovery adjudication services. Following a 20-year judicial career, he brings decades of courtroom and leadership experience to his role as a member of the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution team.

Prior to joining Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. in March 2026, Judge Mega served as the Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division, General Equity and Probate from 2020 to 2026. During his time in the Superior Court, he served on several committees, including the General Equity/Foreclosure/Probate Visitation Team Committee, the Judiciary Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC), the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Public Access to Court and Administrative Records, the Judiciary-Surrogates Liaison Committee, and on the Conference of General Equity Presiding Judges and Probate Part Judges.

During Judge Mega’s tenure on the bench, he served in a number of key roles, including Trial Judge in the Family, Criminal, and Civil Divisions. While with the Civil Division of New Jersey, Judge Mega handled personal injury, medical malpractice, and contract cases. He also served as Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division and as a Trial Judge in the Complex Business Litigation Program.

In addition to his judicial service, Judge Mega has been a frequent lecturer at the New Jersey State Bar Association Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the Union County Bar Association, and at judicial conferences.  

Judge Mega began his legal career in private practice concentrating in complex commercial and construction litigation, personal injury, and land use and zoning before going on to serve in several public roles. Over the years, he served as Planning Board Attorney for the Township of Clark and the City of Linden and also served as the Land Use Board Attorney for the Borough of Fanwood, and for the Township of Green Brook. He also served the community as a Public Defender for the City of Linden.
