On February 18, 2014, the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs (the “DCA”) adopted new regulations which incorporate print-based security features into all New Jersey Prescription Blanks (NJPBs).  The DCA has recently extended the deadline for the use of old NJPBs from August 18th to September 20th, 2014.

 May 18, 2014

After May 18th, approved New Jersey Prescription Blank Printer Vendors will no longer be able to sell the "old" NJPB (blue front, green back). Only the new design may be offered for sale.

September 20, 2014

The "old" NJPBs may be used by practitioners for validly written prescriptions dated on or before September 20, 2014. After September 20th, practitioners must use the new NJPBs to issue prescriptions written for their patients.

Patient prescriptions originally written on or before September 20th will be filled at  New Jersey pharmacies pursuant to the guidelines set forth in N.J.A.C. 13:39-7.3 for non-Controlled Dangerous Substances (non-CDS) and N.J.A.C. 13:45H-7.5 for Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS).  Prescribers may place an order for New Jersey Prescription Blanks either with an approved Printer Vendor or an approved Sales Representative who works with an approved Printer Vendor. The approved vendor list is available on the DCA website at : https://www.state.nj.us/dca/
