Those of you unfortunate enough to have received one of those nasty notices with a picture of your car in the middle of an intersection when the light is red may be interested to know that the ticket-issuing capabilities of some of these red light cameras have been deactivated, at least temporarily. According to a report posted today on nj.com,
Officials from the state Department of Transportation say 63 of the 85 red-light cameras in New Jersey have not been tested to ensure yellow lights were timed in accordance with the statute that created the pilot program.
Beginning today, tickets will not be issued at those 63 locations until it is determined whether the traffic systems are in compliance with the law.
The article contains a chart listing the red light cameras that have been disabled from being able to issue tickets until they are determined to be functioning in accordance with law. A word of caution - the cameras are still watching you and if the camera is found to be functioning properly, rest assured that the nasty notice will arrive in your mailbox very soon.
