In Memoriam: Morris Brown, Wilentz Shareholder (1928-2011)

We are deeply saddened to announce that Morris Brown, a shareholder with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. passed away on August 10, 2011 in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.  A renowned personal injury lawyer for 55 years, Mr. Brown joined the Wilentz firm in 1956 and became a partner in 1968. 

Mr. Brown graduated from George Washington University with a B.A. in 1951 and received his law degree from Harvard in 1955.  He was admitted to the bars of New Jersey, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals – Third Circuit in 1956, and the United States Supreme Court in 1978.  Mr. Brown was very active in the Middlesex County, New Jersey State and American Bar Associations, as well as the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice (formerly ATLA).  He was president of the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers and president of ATLA between 1976 and 1977.

He received a number of awards in the legal field, including the Hon. Joseph Halpern Award for demonstrating the criteria of integrity, motivation, scholarship, compassion and advocacy.

In addition to his legal work, Mr. Brown was a leader in the community.  He served as a trustee of the J.F.K. Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey since 1975.  He also served on the Board of Directors and as vice president of Temple Neve Shalom in Edison.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Temple Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Avenue, Metuchen, NJ  08840.  The burial will immediately follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, US. Highway 1, Woodbridge.
