Christopher Keating to Moderate a Discussion on “Advocacy During a Pandemic: Revisiting Pretrial Detention Orders and Navigating Newfound Discretion in Sentencing for Certain Non-Violent Offenses” at NJSBA’s 2021 Annual Meeting

Wilentz Associate Christopher J. Keating will moderate a panel discussion on “Advocacy During a Pandemic: Revisiting Pretrial Detention Orders and Navigating Newfound Discretion in Sentencing for Certain Non-Violent Offenses” at NJSBA’s 2021 Annual Meeting. The 1.25-hour virtual program will focus on:

  • The roles of defense attorneys and prosecutors in the wake of the recent New Jersey Supreme Court decision allowing for detention hearings to be reopened under certain circumstances for defendants in jail for more than six months during the pandemic.
  • The recent AG Directive terminating the use of mandatory minimums for certain non-violent drug offenses, and the impact that it will have on plea negotiations and advocacy at sentencing.

This program has been approved for 1.5 CLE credits in New Jersey and 1.5 professional practice credits in New York. Approval is pending for 1.0 substantive credit in Pennsylvania.
