Viola S. Lordi is Of Counsel at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. and a member of the Employment Law and Administrative Law & Governmental Agencies groups. Ms. Lordi is a long-time and trusted advisor for public, private and independent schools, and institutions of higher education. Private entities that provide professional educational services also have relied on her guidance in navigating the complex aspects of state and federal education laws. Over the course of her career, she has earned a reputation as a zealous yet reasonable advocate for her clients, focusing on the best ways to support their mission of educating the students they serve.

Ms. Lordi brings to the table a practical and comprehensive understanding of what it takes to manage stakeholders’ expectations, labor demands and regulatory requirements facing governing bodies, administrators and private providers in the education setting. Often appearing on her clients’ behalf before state administrative tribunals and the courts governing educational entities that operate in New Jersey, for over 25 years, Ms. Lordi has represented clients before the New Jersey Superior Court, the State Board of Education, the Commissioner of Education, the Office of Administrative Law, the School Ethics Commission, the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission and Federal Courts. Her representation of public and private education clients has involved governance and regulatory issues, special education litigation and school ethics, public and private sector employment law matters as well as labor negotiations and arbitrations. She has represented private schools, boards of education for traditional school districts, charter schools and entities providing pre-school and early education services and mental health services in schools on the broad range of matters involving the regulation of these entities.

Ms. Lordi was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve as a member of its Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law effective January 1, 2019.

Prior to joining Wilentz in 1986, Ms. Lordi served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. 

Ms. Lordi has been a prolific author and presenter of workshops on education law issues, all with a practical bent geared to application in the school setting. At the invitation of the NJ Bar Foundation, Ms. Lordi has presented workshops on special education law for teachers from schools throughout New Jersey. She also has participated as a seminar panel member for the NJ Association of School Attorneys, the NJ School Boards Association and the NJ Institute for Continuing Legal Education on a wide range of education law issues. Ms. Lordi has been accorded a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating and selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers since 2013.
